Bio:
Jonna Twigg is an Ohio born artist, entrepreneur, and paper expert who spends most of her time binding custom books, re-housing collections of art, and drawing with her two young sons.
Jonna graduated from CCAD in 2003 and promptly moved to New York City, where she cultivated a career as a museum preparator specializing in the exhibition and long-term storage of works on paper. Working alongside New York’s leading paper conservators she has worked on major projects for both museums and private collections such as the Guggenheim Museum, the 9/11 Museum, AV Shinde, and the Maurice Sendak Foundation.
As a self-taught book-binder, who actively used books in her artistic practice, Jonna began making books for fellow artists, friends and family in 2006. By 2008 she had officially founded Twigg’s Bindery with commissions from galleries and small publishing houses, and by 2012 she was selling blank journals and sketchbooks online. Over the subsequent years, Twigg’s Bindery became an award winning business that would be recognized for its authenticity, innovative designs, and for its impeccable hand craft. Profiles of Twigg’s Bindery and Jonna’s Brooklyn workshop appeared in the New York Times, the seminal book In The Company of Women, as well as countless magazine write ups in places like Vogue, Fortune, New York Magazine, Martha Stewart Living, and the Financial Times.
After fifteen years in New York City Jonna has taken a creative hiatus and moved back to Ohio for some much needed space and time. Twigg’s Bindery currently operates as a custom order business, and she remains engaged in her work with private art collections.
